HISTORY
Years ago, Abraham Lincoln Carlyle ran for President of the USA. Although losing, he became obsessed with obtaining the presidency in any possible way. Appointed the head of the American Security Agency (replacing B. Eric Blairman), Carlyle took control of the metahuman team called the Force of July. Shortly afterwards, Carlyle allied himself with the Psycho-Pirate (II), whose mind-manipulating Medusa Mask could persuade the American people to install Carlyle as president. However, Batman learned of the plan and a combined effort by the Outsiders (II) and Infinity, Inc. stopped the Pirate and the Force of July. The Force realized that Carlyle had manipulated them, but he was still their appointed leader.
During the event known as the 'Janus Directive', the Force was wrongly accused of treason. The Suicide Squad was sent to deal with them, and in the battle, several Force members were killed. Carlyle himself died in a mental feedback behind the Medusa Mask and the M-Vest of Shade the Changing Man (I).
