OVERVIEW

An evil supernatural female entity, foe of Zatanna and her father Zatara.

HISTORY

Allura is a Dark Elemental born of pure negative emotion. She attaches herself to a host, feeding on their memories and magic until nothing remains but an empty soulless shell. Long ago, she bound herself to Princess Allura of Kharma, and the bond between them grew so strong they practically became one. With the aid of the sorceress Sindella, charged with excising the parasite and saving the princess, Allura was ultimately banished to a distant realm.

After Sindella's death, Allura returned to exact her revenge on Zatara, Sindella's lover, but Zatara defeated her by trapping her in the Sword of Paracelsus. However, just before her banishment Allura placed a curse on Zatara and his daughter Zatanna – if they set eyes upon each other, they would both die. Zatara left his daughter without a word to keep them both safe, and to search for a way to undo the curse.

Unknowing of her father's sacrifice Zatanna searched countless dimensions to find him. Eventually, Allura tricked Zatanna into freeing her and bringing her to the world of Kharma where Zatara now dwelled. The combined efforts of Zatanna, Zatara, magical duplicates of the JLA, and Princess Allura finally defeated the evil Allura and removed her curse. The evil Allura later returned to menace Zatanna again.
