HISTORY

Once a Green Lantern, Sinestro became a renegade, responsible for annihilating most of the Green Lantern Corps and imprisoning the Guardians of the Universe. He vowed to kill Earth's current Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner, and any other potential candidates for the role.

Sinestro attacked Rayner in the Colorado Rockies. Despite assistance from his Justice League allies, Black-Hawk and the Flash, Rayner was clearly outmatched by the experienced renegade Lantern. Forced to retreat, Rayner sought help from his predecessor, Alan Scott.

Arriving at the White House moments after Rayner, Sinestro incapacitated former Green Lantern Alan Scott. Certain of his victory, he was surprised to find former President of the United States of America Hal Jordan, who twenty years prior had declined the opportunity to succeed Alan Scott, had taken the power ring from the fallen Kyle Rayner.

Though a novice with the ring, Jordan possessed formidable willpower. More crucially, Jordan had overcome the ring's yellow "weakness," realizing it was a psychological safeguard suggested by the Guardians to prevent improper use of the rings. Jordan was able to handily defeat Sinestro and subsequently free the Guardians. Jordan ultimately joined the Green Lantern Corps to help rebuild their ranks. Sinestro was not heard from again.
