HISTORY
The Green Lantern of Korugar, Sinestro, was trained by Abin Sur of Ungara, a mentorship that developed into a strong friendship. Through Abin Sur, Sinestro met and soon married Arin Sur.[1] Sometime later, she was tragically killed when Ungara was destroyed by the Manhunters.[2]
Another death would have profound effects on the universe, the killing of William Hand of Earth by the Red Lantern Atrocitus, which unleashed Nekron and his army of Black Lanterns. The Black Lanterns rapidly expanded, overrunning 200 sectors. Sinestro grew disillusioned with the inaction of the Guardians of the Universe, witnessing his fellow Green Lanterns die needlessly while the Black Lantern Corps grew. Sinestro's attempt to recruit Abin Sur to his cause failed, as did his plan to bring other Lanterns to his side. It was then that Sinestro learned of the Flashpoint.
Before killing Atrocitus, Sinestro discovered a prior timeline and the prophecy of the Flashpoint. On Earth, the Flash had altered the timeline, and Sinestro intended to seize this power to rewrite a new reality. However, this prophecy required the death of Abin Sur.[3]
Confronting Abin Sur, the two fought. Sinestro managed to slash off Abin Sur's hand, but the Green Lantern of Korugar was ultimately defeated when Abin Sur crushed Sinestro's power ring. Sinestro was left behind as Abin Sur departed to fulfill his destiny.[4]
